These are examples of some of the work I've been doing. I have been investigating the idea of creating comfort, and how through the level of comfort people are prompted into conversation and feel that they can open up. The idea of sitting down with a cup of tea whilst you clear your head and relax or coming in to someone's house for a cuppa and a chat was the first way i thought to start creating this comfort level. I started writing in the inside of teacups, writing personal stories from my life as a way of starting the idea of divulging personal information.
I am a Public Artist living and working in Leeds.
I am presently occupied by the idea of communication and interaction. I like to open up the idea of speaking to strangers and creating new experiences between members of the public. I feel that we live in a society that ‘keeps itself to itself’ with the growing popularity of iPods, mobile Internet and laptops introducing a culture of distraction and removal from social engagement.
I hope to approach this attitude with a friendly and inquisitive nature that will encourage the revival of the open and welcoming civilization.
I am often inspired by everything I see and experience around me such as colour, nature, people, poetry, reading, texture and theatre. Words and reading in particular are very important to my work and myself, and I enjoy experimenting and playing with language.
Learning is so important to me and I thrive in an environment where I can reflect and have the time to consider work and the working process.
